Thoroughly enjoyed all...
Thoroughly enjoyed all of the stories in this essential collection for fans of the Lunar Chronicles. It was nice reading some background stories that fleshed out many of the characters we have all come to love -- yeah more Carswell! Also would be good for those who have never read the series for a good introduction into this brilliantly developed world full of rich characters and snappy witty dialogue. Only downside is there wasn't enough Kenny, I really think Ms Meyer will have to write a story all about him. The wedding story was a tad too sweet for this cynical old lady, but I am pretty sure I would have cried when I was the target age for these stories. Also now extremely intrigued to pick up Heartless when it finally comes out in the Fall. The little excerpt from the book at the end of this collection has made me kick myself for not lining up in that huge lineup for the ARC of it at BEA. 4.5/5

Most of these are prequel stories, except for “Something Old, Something”, in which a group of friends gather for a wedding. I thought that was the perfect coda to the series. It's funny and sweet, and I like that these fairytale retellings do end with a wedding -- but it happens after time has passed and the bridal couple are no longer teenagers. Having this story at the end of Stars Above rather than as an epilogue to Winter also made the passage of time feel real. As for the other stories, “Glitches” (eleven year old Cinder meeting her new adoptive family) and “Carswell's Guide to Being Lucky” (Thorne as a young teenager) were great. “The Princess and the Guard” had some wonderful scenes but they felt a bit like a series of short stories, rather than something cohesive. “The Keeper” (Scarlet and her grandmother), “After Sunshine Passes By” (Cress), and “The Mechanic” (Kai's perspective of meeting Cinder) didn't take full advantage of their potential to tell us much new information, but I still enjoyed spending more time with these characters. I didn't care for “The Queen's Army” or “The Little Android”. In other words, more or less about what I expect from a short story collection.

This review might have some spoilersI thought that this was an interesting little short, but I wasn't really crazy about it. I liked reading about the whole fight incident, and hearing things from Thorne's point of view was cool too, but it just didn't wow me. It was a nice display of Meyer's diverse writing skill though, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes the series.

I am not normally a fan of novellas, and was not even going to read this. It was on my shelves though, so I knew I had to at least give it a try. This was a perfect companion to The Lunar Chronicles series and I really enjoyed it. It was so fun getting to learn more about these characters. I liked seeing how everything played out before the actual books started. I loved learning more about how both Scarlet and Cinder came to live with the Grandmother. Cress was my favorite in the series, so of course, I loved learning more about her story. All of them were great except for one which did not focus on a main character. Overall, I loved these.

I liked some of these ...
I liked some of these short stories more than others, and overall I thought they were all very good. They complemented the books of the Lunar Chronicles, and didn't leave me hating any of the characters (cough, cough, the Selection series) who I enjoyed in the main series, but also didn't make me like them more than the main series (cough, Red Queen, cough.) The best set of novellas I've read so far.

This volume was a collection of short stories based on the characters in the Lunar Chronicles series. I liked the tales and the background provided of each character. While it's not essential you read the book, a lot of it was hinted in the main novels, it is nice to drop in on the world and see how everyone is doing.

This was a nice collection of short stories of all our beloved characters childhoods. Most of it was no surprise since each of these events were eluded to in the series itself. There was one story about an android that was different from the rest though. I enjoyed the last short story the most, most likely because it was a epilogue of sorts to the series. It was a nice conclusion to the series. Recommended if you really enjoyed reading the series.

    This is a collection o...
This is a collection of 'short stories'. They fill in the gaps between the full length novels and they are wonderful. I blazed through them in a day. Some are before stories, telling us how some characters got to where they were when the series started, one is a 'stand-alone', and one is MMMMPH < spoiler >, an after story. I loved this as much as I loved the original series. Also included in this book was a preview from: "Heartless", Long before she was the terror of Wonderland-- the infamous Queen of Hearts--she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.

I'm one of those people that is reading this series out of order (whoops!) but I still connected with these characters and I loved learning their background (or in the case of the last novella -- what happened after the last book.) Well written, I laughed out loud at parts. Worth the read. A gem of a book. I would recommend it. 5 out of 5 stars.
