Great car-top cargo carrier
Used it on a 2,000-mile trip. No issues. Worked great. Easy to put on top and load and easy to take down. Stores nicely in the storage bag that comes with it. I have no luggage racks on the top of my car, so I used the strap-through-the-car method. I do prefer a ratchet-type strap system, so I purchased two separate ratchet loop straps instead of using the straps that come with it. I found (at my local Walmart) a 24-gallon (96 qt) tote that fit nicely in the front and two 21 gallon totes that fit the space in the rear of the carrier. This made loading very easy as there were just the 3 containers to load. With the Rightline Gear Non-skid Roof Pad, it didn't shift a bit, even with the high freeway speeds for the entire trip. This will be used on many more trips.

Works great - as advertised, with one exception
Got the carrier and two days later drove across the country to deliver my son to college. We hit a brief torrential rain storm in Arizona (felt like the car was being hit by machine gun fire) and not a drop got inside. The trick is to make sure the flaps fold where intended - this puts the zipper in the right position to assure no water gets through. The only problem was the straps were not long enough to loop through the car - not even close. So this "preferred" attachment is a joke - and we are talking about a Nissan Versa which is about as narrow as you can get. So we used the clips and they worked fine - no leaks through the doors, no slipping, no damage to paint or weather seal. The bag even cleaned up quickly (bugs squashed on the front) with a paper towel and a bit of water. Very happy with this product.

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser01/02/2017Carrier and clipsThis carrier worked perfectly. It holds a lot and never shifted on the top of the car (although we did put an anti slip rug mat between the car roof and carrier). It stood up to heat and rain and packed up into it's carrier (the size of a small backpack) when done. Definitely worth the money!Smallcarmom

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser12/29/2016It was a giftIt was a gift for my daughter and son-in-law. 3 kids and a dog in a Honda CRV was crowded for long trips so this was a necessity. The carrier worked great even though the car doesn't have roof racks. Everything was dry and secure. The carrier performed as advertised.Kathw

4.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser06/28/2014useful, but tie downs too shortGood and functional solution, BUT If you do not have a roof rack, the tie down straps are too short, even when 2 are tied together as described (so that the 4 ties become two). Also, if you drive in the rain, the cargo in the carrier does stay dry, BUT the water runs into the car where the necessary tension on the tie-down holds the rubber door seal gasket open.dampdriver

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser04/19/2014Fantastic productThis was a wonderful product. No problems with rain and noise that was experienced was minimal. Twisting the straps that connected in the car allowed air to wrap through them versus cutting through the wind. I recommend going through the instructions as they are a little confusing. I would highly recommend this product and had no problems with the 1400+ miles that were driven with it. Also pack it full.Gljsma

4.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser08/11/2013Right size at the right priceI was considering a hard shell roof case, but the cost was more than twice the price of this roofbag, and the carrying capacity was smaller. I needed this to carry extra stuff for a camping trip and this bag worked really well. I read the reviews about the seams ripping or inside coating coming off, but I used it on a 550 mile trip, and everything was fine. I did buy the non-skip matt to put underneath it, and MOST IMPORTANT, I made sure to fill it full, so there was no extra material to flap around in the wind. I also made sure any sharper edges on things I packed were covered to minimize rubbing against the sides, using towels, jackets, pillows. There was no rain, so I can't speak to it's weather proofness.ARegularConsumer

4.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser07/14/2013Great for small cars!I drive a KIA Soul. This was perfect for a trip that I was taking over 600 miles one way to the beach. A lot of room and easy to assemble. I do recommend the padding to go underneath, because I put the bag and the padding on and did not have it centered on the top of my car and it was hard to move around with the pad underneath. This assured me that it was going to be hard for the bag to move during the drive. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because of the straps, as several people have mentioned. The straps that come with the bag are not long enough to attach inside the car. I chose to not use the hooks, and went and bought my own straps so I could connect inside the car. We experienced rain and everything was dry inside the bag. There was a little wind noise with this carrier, but not bad. I noticed at a rest area that the straps were being rubbed by the circles that they go through, cause the straps to wear. I purchased a small roll of duct tape and taped the straps where they ran through the rings preventing the wear from happening. This is also helped reduce the wind noise, because the straps could not viberate from the wind. This is a great carrier for small cars, would purchase another one if I needed it!ASte23

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser10/28/2012Great ProductI purchased this item because I was moving out of state. I strapped it to the roof of my Honda Accord, packed it with my duffle bags and other tote bags and drove over 700 miles without incident. It rained for part of the trip and everything stayed dry. Great product for the value. Follow the directions and you should have no problems. I didn't hook it to the frame. We attached the hooks to the rings on the bag and ran the straps through the car and tightened them. Whenever we stopped, we checked the bag and the straps.VAtoGA
