Great quick blood glucose check for elderly
I bought this for my dad to check his sugar levels as a nurse said he's a little too close to being pre diabetic. So this tool is great to check monitor his sugar. He loves to drink sodas everyday, and loves to eat sugary sweets. So this is handy for him. Also is great to check your sugar when you don't feel good just to rule out low blood sugar especially when you are on a diet. Everything is easy to assemble and instructions are very clear! This includes the 10 lancets or needle and 50 test strips. I would use the 2 or 3 line setting on the lancet to poke your finger. And then squeeze on your finger so that there is enough blood sample for the test strips to absored, so then you don't have to take another sample again. A little tip from my mistakes or if it's you first time using one.

Test results are inaccurate.
Test results are inaccurate. (15-30 points) I have checked results against 2 other meters that I know to be in good working order. Maybe I got a bad one. Too bad because there are no returns on this meter.

Stop.... Don't get it. It lies.
This machine lies. Please don't get it. I took my blood with my mom's machine and noticed my numbers were lower than what I expected. So I took my mom's machine onetouch various flex and tested it against mine for a few days. It was always 20-40 off. This can make a huge difference when the doctors want to put you on meds because your Metter is wrong.

    Pulling the Plug
I purchased this item as an alternative to my Onetouch Ultra Mini that I have used for over 4 years, since the price of the strips is abusive at $1/strip. The old meter matched my lab work results closely since I always tested minutes before the blood was drawn at the lab. The Relion Compact is off by more 25 points. I can't live with that variation if I'm monitoring my blood glucose level closely. I've requested the control solution from Walmart Customer service twice and still have not received it. It's been over a month so I'm pulling the plug on this one. I'm going to purchase the Contour Next from Walmart based on an accuracy comparisons from the NIH. Hopefully I'll have better luck.

Control Solution - Item m/b bought separately
Buyers beware: Product does not contain Control Solution Testing Solution. Must be bought separately, and no big-named pharmacy carries the solution. It's very important, per the products inside instruction. Solution must be bought from company themselves.

    Great Monitor
One of the best over the counter glucose monitors available. Studies show these are incredibly accurate too. Had a problem with insurance and had to grab one. So glad ReliOn is always there as a backup just in case. Life saver.

    Better than I expected
I needed a basic glucose meter to spot check the new Freestyle Libre CGM that I am using. After researching online, I found a journal article that validated the accuracy of current glucose meters in the market. I was surprised to find this ReliOn in the top 5 most accurate. So I went in store to check it out. Im impressed that for less than $20, I have a complete kit (meter, 50 strips, lancet). I also ordered a free control solution by calling the 1800 number on the box. The solution expires in 90 days, so it makes sense that they dont include it in the kit (in case it sits on the shelf for more than 3 months. Another neat feature: you can swap out the white cap of the lancet with the clear one (see photo). That way, you can see the needle when you use it (yes, Im the type who looks at the syringe when getting my vaccine). Note to the reviewer who said the clear cap doesnt fit - you actually have to remove the white cap and then use the clear cap as a replacement. Ive used the glucose meter once. Performed as expected. Its not rechargeable but I dont expect to use this often anyway, just as a backup for extreme readings on my Libre. Overall, very much worth the $20 I spent for the kit.

Great kit at an inexpensive price
I bought this for my mother so she could monitor her blood sugar. I liked that it was a kit and came with an initial amount of items to get her going. Kit is easy to use and loading the lancets was very easy. I also like that there is not a large blood sample required to get a reading.

    Great Starter: Very Minimalistic
This was good for a first one. The biggest downfall is the difficulty in getting the control solution. The day after I got it, I called to order control solution. The man said he would send me some free, so I gave him my address. He said it would probably be seven days but can be up to fourteen. That was fifteen days ago. I will be calling them tomorrow. The machine beeps, and you can't turn it off. It's annoying when I'm just waking up. There are only 10 memory slots with no time stamp on them. I like the size, but the case feels a little snug with what I put in it. I liked that it was a kit that came all together. It does make it cheaper, which was a big consideration since I couldn't go through insurance. However, I didn't totally crunch the numbers to see price differences. Buying the Premier Classic ($9), 50 test strips ($9), and a lancet device (5.84) is $23.84 is the equivalent of what's included in this kit. This product saves you $4.40 as opposed to the Classic. Unless the size and low cost is a total must, I recommend taking the $5 plunge and getting the next one up. I haven't mastered all of the functions, but I've had it less than a day. I will be reviewing that one at some point. Overall, it's a good meter. It's just super basic with a far better one that's less than $5 more. The photo shows a size reference (because telling me inches doesn't help me). I have a MacBook Pro 13 if that helps you compare. The number showed is the memory system, showing that there's no time indicator.
