Works great!
I have to say, I was so excited to get this package. I already own the basic Flex Brew and use it everyday. I opened the box immediately and read the directions, so I could use it right away. This model has a programing feature for a preset brewing time, while giving you two choices, regular or bold brew. The stainless steel and black look is clean and modern. The unit stands about 13 inches tall and 9 inches wide. You can brew K cups, ground coffee or pods, thus the name flex brew. The water tank for the coffee side holds up to 14 oz. to accommodate a standard cup or travel mug. The other side of the unit holds 16 oz. of water for hot water use only. That side is great for hot cocoa for the kids or a quick bowl of oatmeal. This flex brew is fast with a brew time of 1 ½ minutes from the time it's turned on until it's completely done. The coffee and hot water temperature is a perfect 180 degrees. If you choose to use the hot water side only, the unit will keep it hot for 30 minutes, before turning itself off. My older children have used this feature everyday since it has arrived. I do have to caution that a parent or adult should be supervising, because the water is very hot. Now, for clean up, just a quick rinse of the basket and you are ready to go. The company does suggest running water only after use of hot cocoa k cups to keep the needle clean. Overall this unit gets a two thumps up from me. Its nice looking, quick, easy to clean and works great! I just love using it.

Great Single-Serve Coffee or Tea Maker
I was so happy, to be able to get this nice new coffee maker. My other coffee maker had stopped working, a few months ago, and I never got around to getting another one, to replace it. So I was thrilled with the opportunity to try this one out! First of all, it arrived in good time and was well packaged. The outside mailing box was undamaged. The product box was shrink wrapped and surrounded with packing paper, so it wouldn’t bounce around in the mailing box. Once opened, the product was in perfect condition and ready for use. Let me first say the machine is a bit bigger than I thought it would be, but that’s okay. Although it sticks out on the counter a bit more, than my old machine, it is narrower, than my old machine was and so actually takes up less space. The cord is short - but most coffee machines have a short cord, so no biggie. It fits perfectly in the space I had intended for it. After being plugged into the nearby outlet, the cord fits neatly behind it. I was able to set the time, no problem. Unfortunately, I have yet to be able to program the timer. I have tried and tried – I still can’t get it to work. I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or not, but the timer refuses to set. So when I woke up, I had to press the button, to make some coffee… which is really not that big of a deal, for me. It makes coffee either using single-serve packs or grounds. It comes with a removable ground filter and a removable single-serve pack holder. Single-serve packs use 10 oz of water and grounds use up to 16 oz of water, in the reservoir. It allows you to choose whether you want regular or bold (strong) coffee. I used grounds and it made a nice cup of coffee, for me, the first time I tried it. I filled the reservoir, added the grounds, and placed a mug under the dispenser. I walked into the bedroom, to quickly change clothes and then back into the kitchen. Within that small amount of time, I had a nice hot cup of coffee waiting for me. Perfect. I enjoy drinking both coffee and tea. This coffee maker also boils water, for tea. It has a separate reservoir and dispenser for that, which is really great. The reservoir holds up to 14 oz of water, which can also be used for instant hot cocoa, instant soups or whatever you choose. It only takes a couple of minutes for the water to get nice and hot, so it’s very handy. If you are someone who needs a big pot of coffee, for yourself, every morning, or have more than one or two people, to serve, this coffee maker may not be for you. However, if you are someone who wants a quick couple of cups of hot coffee or tea, for yourself – or maybe make some instant hot cocoa or soup, once in a while, this FlexBrew coffee maker is the one for you! I’m very happy with it and would recommend it to others - thumbs up!

    Very Good Single-Serve Coffeemaker
The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Programmable Single-Serve Coffeemaker with Hot Water Dispenser has thus far performed very well, and is well-suited for situations in which hot beverages need to be made for no more than a small number of people in a short time period. Aside from coffee, the machine can dispense hot water for other items, such as tea or hot cereal, which makes it more useful. The water heats quite quickly, in only a couple of minutes. Of course, this makes the programmable option of the coffeemaker largely unimportant. If only a couple of minutes is needed to heat the water, why bother programming the coffeemaker to make coffee at a particular time? Unlike some other coffeemakers, this one has the option to make regular or bold strength coffee, which can be useful. The coffeemaker is sturdily constructed; easy to use, particularly because it does not have many options; easy to pour water into; and easy to clean, though not enough time has passed to try the monthly cleaning regimen. One disadvantage is that you cannot use a regular coffee filter in the coffeemaker. Instead, coffee grounds are placed into a metal filter and, after they are used, must be dumped into the garbage and the filter washed, which is messier. Of course, this is not a concern if single-serve packs are used instead of grounds.

    Versatile Single Serve Coffee Maker
I received this Hamilton Beach Single-Serve Coffee Maker, Programmable FlexBrew with Hot Water Dispenser (49988) free from Walmart Spark Reviewer. It is fantastic. It is easy to set up for the first time and to use. You can make a fresh cup of coffee any time. You can use a single-serve pack or ground coffee, and it is compatible with any k-cup pack or k-cup type re-usable filter. It brews up to 14 ounces of coffee into a cup or travel mug. It also dispenses up to 16 ounces of hot water for tea, hot cocoa, instant coffee, or cereal – directly into your cup or bowl. I am glad it does not have a large reservoir because I do want fresh water each time, not stale water. When I made hot water for the first time in this machine, it took about 2 minutes to heat and the water stays hot (above 176 degree f) for 30 minutes, then shuts off automatically. All the removable parts are top shelf dishwasher safe. I find the k-cups pricey, so I use my favorite ground coffee. My wife can make her cup of coffee at 6 A.M. and then set it up for when I get up at 7 A.M. for my own fresh hot cup of coffee and everybody is happy! It does not take up much space on the counter and looks really nice and matches our other small kitchen appliances. This machine is best for people who drink only a cup or two of coffee at a time and want each cup brewed fresh and fast.

    Great Single-Serve Coffe Maker
The Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Programmable Single-Serve Coffee Maker with Hot Water Dispenser, 49988 (SSCM) is a very expensive looking coffee maker. It appears to be very well made and functions flawlessly. It will be a very welcome addition to any kitchen counter! The brewing for the Single-Serve Pack and the Ground Coffee are both easy to accomplish and the instructions are easy to read and follow. The pictures in the instruction booklet are a great help in following the written instructions, as often the instructions for small appliances are almost impossible to follow! Being able to brew either "regular" or "bold" strength coffee is a great help as all coffee's are not the same strength when packaged. The Hot Water Function is a welcome addition to the SSCM as often you need to be able to make hot chocolate, tea, soup or puddings. It has approximately the same "foot print" as my present coffee maker which has less functions. It has been so nice to be able to get up in the morning and quickly brew a large cup of coffee for myself and then a Single-Service Pack for my wife. We like it a lot! We found only one criticism to mention for the SSCM and that is the cumbersome method of pouring the cold water into the Ground Coffee Reservoir! If you are right handed, as we are, and most folks are, trying to pour right handed causes water to flow into the Single-Serve Water Reservoir at the same time. We found that to neatly pour cold water into the Ground Coffee Reservoir required using your left hand. It is not a deal breaker, but we felt it was worth mentioning. The SSCM is a nice looking, well constructed and properly functioning machine.

    Good for single serve
Hamilton Beach Flexbrew Programmable single-serve coffeemaker has many options to choose from. For the coffee side of the machine, you can use single-serve K-Cups or ground coffee, set the machine to bold or regular brew, and fill a regular cup, mug or travel mug up to 14 ounces. For the hot water side, you can heat up to 16 ounces of water in a flash to dispense into your cup, mug or bowl. The Flexbrew also has an adjustable cup rest that you can change on the coffee side to accommodate travel mug or set it higher up for a smaller cup to rest on. This is helpful because on the coffee side, liquid pours out after brewing automatically and you must have your cup or mug sitting there to catch the coffee being dispensed. The water side is a bit different; the height of the base to rest your cup is not adjustable and can not accommodate a travel mug or anything much taller than a regular mug. You can get around this by tilting your tall mug or deeper bowl inward until it triggers the dispensing lever which you must push against while the water is being dispensed. Hot water will stay hot up to 30 minutes, also.

    So many uses!
I had put off buying a K cup machine for ages because I just bought a brand new coffee machine a couple years ago and hate making repeat purchases but this machine is awesome. Not only do you get the k cup machine which is fast and efficient you also get the basket for using your own ground coffee which matches it more versatile. On one side you have the k cup and on the other side it has a hot water dispenser for up to 40 ounces of hot water. If you have kids to get to school this means a fast packet of instant oatmeal at breakfast time to feed your kids before school and it's guilt free and super easy. It also is great for tea, cocoa and even making iced tea concentrate by using a larger amount with a couple bags to soak for awhile before pouring over ice. There are so many functions and it still is not that much larger than a normal sized coffee maker. For as small as it is and to have as many functions as this one does I would buy this as a gift for friends and family in the market for a coffee maker in a heartbeat. Convenience of k cups, cost effective with the ability to use ground coffee and that large 40 ounce hot water dispenser can't be beat.

    Super convenient coffee maker!
I have been using the Hamilton Beach Single Serve Coffee Maker with Hot Water Dispenser for about a week now, making coffee and tea every morning and sometimes in the mid-morning and late afternoon, and this weekend while we had good friends over. It worked very quickly and efficiently, and produced a smooth, (not bitter) and silky brew. You can brew up to 14 ounces of coffee, or less. I also like that you can forgo the K-cup and use your own ground coffee. K-cups are expensive for the frugal family, and in my taste, produce too strong of a brew. It even comes with a small reusable, washable filter which you can use for your own ground coffee. Very convenient. However, as much as I like the idea of instant coffee, I feel that it may be just be a little too instant. I grind my own coffee from fresh beans that have been frozen to preserve the freshness, and while my Mr. Coffee drip brewer has a clean taste, this coffee maker leaves a clouded taste in the mouth. Once the dust settles it's better. It's not a bad taste, and the coffee is never too weak or too strong for the palate, so I think this can be remedied with a small paper filter placed inside the ground coffee filter itself. As for the functionality of this machine, it is not only a coffee maker but a hot water dispenser, in a separate tank from the coffee brewing station. It dispenses water at just below the boiling temperature of water, which makes it easy to steep teas, make instant hot cocoa, soak wood chips for grilling, re-hydrating dried foods, and even make instant oatmeal and other cereals! It takes about a minute and the nice hot water stays at temperature for about 30 minutes. The machine comes with a display which allows you choose between a strong brew and normal brew, or dispensing hot water. It's digital operation board which lights up blue when you press a button. This coffee maker is programmable, allowing you to have coffee right when you wake up, and learning how to do it was a snap! I didn't even need the directions for program the time correctly, and programming it with the simple directions in the instructions manual was very easy. The form of the machine is bulky, not the best if you have a small kitchen or limited counter space, but it is light when there isn't any water in it and will pretty much fit into any corner of the kitchen where you have room and an outlet. The cord is about the length you would expect, long enough to pull the machine away from the wall but not too long so as it would be jumbled up behind the machine and hampering it from getting out of the way on the counter. I am pleased with this coffee maker and so is the other coffee drinker in the family.

    Fast, Functional...Beautiful!
I was already familiar with the FlexBrew line of coffeemakers from Hamilton Beach when I received this new model. Although my current FlexBrew doesn’t possess nearly the number of bells and whistles this one does, it has been reliable and it was less than half the price of this programmable version. I wondered how the fancy upgrade would stack up. The first thing I noticed is the looks. This coffeemaker is really attractive sitting on your counter. It appears as if it might have come right out of a coffeehouse, especially with the water dispenser on the side. Whoever designed it, kudos to them. I didn’t realize until I got it set up that there are two flip up tops--one on the left where you pour in the water to make coffee as well as add the Kcup or coffee grounds and one on the right where you pour in water to make hot water so it appears as if there may be different reservoirs for each. I did have to refer to the manual briefly to figure out how to set the clock and to let me know what the different icons meant on the display, but once you know, you’re good. I don’t think I’ll be using the programmable function, still it’s nice to have it available. This thing is smart. The display indicates if one of the reservoirs is out of water and even if the needle is plugged and needs cleaning. I ran a couple rounds of water through each side for an initial cleaning. Here’s a tip on these coffeemakers: use only water filtered through a Pur or Brita pitcher stored at room temperature. I do not use it directly from the refrigerator as I found the machine has to work harder to heat it and the coffee sometimes doesn’t taste as good because the water didn’t reach the right temperature. I have tried every kind of water imaginable and they all ended up killing my Kcup coffeemakers in under a year due to the residue. I tested the hot water side first. 10 oz. of water was poured in and 2:14 minutes later, the icon for hot water stopped blinking indicating the water was ready. I like the little push and serve dispenser that is much like they have on soda machines in restaurants. And that water comes out hot. Hot enough to burn which means its more than hot enough to make oatmeal, cup o soup or whatever else you desire. Now for the Kcup test. Once again, 10 oz. of water went in and 1:51 minutes later, I had steaming hot caramel flavored coffee. Not sure why it took so much longer to make hot water than coffee and I tried making hot water several times allowing the machine to cool in-between and it always came out over two minutes. These times still seem pretty fast to me. Certainly much faster than my lower end FlexBrew which takes twice as long for the same amount of coffee. I love this thing for that alone. The only drawbacks I could find was the machine does tend to take up its fair share of counter real estate. It’s deep so if you have shallow countertops like I do, be ready to lose some space. It’s also a bit loud during heating sounding like a small jet engine inside it. Its a small price to pay. I like the fact the coffee side can accept a large travel mug. Even my 18 oz. oversize travel mug will fit although you can only brew up to 14 oz. of coffee at a time maximum so you’d have to brew a 10 oz. and an 8 oz. to fill it if using Kcups. I havent tried brewing regular coffee. I like the convenience of the Kcups too much, however if I ever want to, I can with this coffeemaker. The little basket is already in there. You just fill up to the line with coffee grounds and brew as usual. The only change I would make to the design is to have the ability to put a large cup under the hot water side. One of those foam cups filled with ramen won’t fit so you have to dispense the hot water into a mug first then pour it on the noodles. Unfortunately the height is something that cannot be adjusted on the hot water side although it can on the coffee side by changing around the metal grate on the bottom. One thing about all the FlexBrew units that buyers should know is that there are a few Kcups that you cannot use with these coffeemakers because instead of piercing the bottom of the cup like a Keurig, the FlexBrew peels back a little piece of plastic on the side of the cup to allow the coffee to seep out. The Kcups which are heavier plastic or have ridges along the outside of the cups (Crazy Cups for one) cannot be used with the FlexBrew machines unless you cut out a piece of plastic from the side yourself and situate it over the pin in the basket which to me is just too much trouble. Unfortunately I didn’t realize this until after I had purchased a bunch of these cups so a word to the wise.

It's great for on the run coffee or tea
It's great for on the run coffee or tea quick and easy to use, I really like it. First of all I really like the way it looks the black matches my kitchen. I've never used a K cup before but it was very easy to use, it also comes with everything you need for making regular coffee no need for coffee filters it comes with it's own so no need to fumble around for anything else. The hot water dispenser is one thing I will probably use more then the coffee I drink mostly tea and eat oatmeal, the water is very hot, but one of the things I don't like about the water dispenser is it only stays hot for 30 minutes then shuts off, sometimes I don't get to it before it shuts off then it has to heat up again, but on the plus side it only takes like 2-3 minutes to heat up. Also I wish it gave as much water as it does on the coffee side I'm not sure why it doesn't I use the travel size mugs for tea also. To dispense the water it has a button like a soda machine you have to push so you can use as much as you need. I could see using the hot water when cooking to sometimes recipes say to use hot water, so while I'm cooking I just put the water in and when I need it it's ready at least for a half and hour anyway. It's a really cool coffee maker and if you make coffee on the fly it's going to work great for you.
