Perfect! I love thinking of new recipes!
This crockpot is a kitchen must for my family. I use it mainly on weekends to make a huge pot of meatballs or vegetable stew. That way, weekday dinners can be ready quickly without a huge fuss or mess. I love the silver color and black liner. They match all of the other appliances in my kitchen. The controls are simple to understand. I love that the liner is dishwasher safe. The lid fits securely.

Not meant for the quicker 4-5 hour recipes
I bought this because of the great reviews and price. Decided to try out a recipe in the instruction booklet. Used a 5.5 lb whole completely thawed chicken. The vent in the lid is great for sticking a meat thermometer through. After a hour on "high" setting, broth was barely warm. After 2 1/2 hours, broth got up to 190 degrees and meat was 140.At 3 hours on high, it finally started cooking with the broth being 200 degrees and the breast meat at 150.It took a total of 6 hours to cook the "4 hour" chicken recipe with about a hour and half for the veggies. It never got hot enough for steam to come out of the vent. I can't comment on low or warm settings. It seem to be smaller than 5 quarts. The chicken, small amount of carrots and 1 onion, put it past the 3/4 recommended level. I had to boil the potatoes separate.I cleaned it up and took it back to Walmart the next day in exchange for a larger 7 quart one for a few dollars more. Walmart is always great about returns when their customers are not happy with their purchases.

    It's okay
    I really like the size of this slow cooker considering it's just myself who I am cooking for. It is much lighter and smaller than my previous one. It did take about 10 minutes for it to warm up and it had a very powerful electric smell at first. It went away an hour later. The chicken (made my version of a co quo vin) cooked pretty quickly, but the potatoes and carrots after 5 hours were still a little hard. After 6 hours on high there were al dente.I was trying to get them soft put after 6 hours I was too tired to cook it longer.The other negatives are that there isn't a timer and it doesn't shut off automatically like my previous one.

    Good for simple meals; lacks fundamental details
    I have used plenty of slow cookers and this one is basic. Holds the quantity of 5 quarts as intended but no extra bells and whistles. Sometimes you need something that is easy to use but one of two large complaints with this is there is no indicator light! Yes, you would know if you personally turned it on but I worry about others such as kids or grandparents touching the hot surface. My other complaint is there is no vent hole! Other obsevations would be: -It has a 'keep warm' option which is nice but found it was similar to low or turning it off and stirring your contents right before serving. -Took a while to warm but did heat evenly. Crock sat flesh. -Cord would be longer and have clips on the bottom to store. -I washed mine by hand and was easy to clean. Also used liners which helped. Crock and lid can be cleaned in a dishwasher but didn't go that option. Overall does what it says but should have an idicator light and vent hole.

    Love this slow cooker!
    I have loved using the Hamilton Beach slow cooker. It is the perfect size for my family of five. I have already made rosst and several different soups in the slow cooker. It has been easy to use and saved me a lot of time when figuring out what to serve for dinner. I have found it very easy to clean and easy to store until I need it again.

    Great slow cooker and easy to use
    The Hamilton beach slow cooker has been .A game chongor in my kitchen ,I love it for the day's my husband and I are warking those long shifts,when we get hame we get to enjoy a very tasty and hot meal .A must for any busy family or just your self,we use every weekend, really I recommend this product it's amazing

    It does the job with a couple small red flags
    I live in the upper Midwest. We use slow Cookers often in the frozen tundra. I have had a few Hamilton Beach Slow Cookers. This HAMILTON BEACH SLOW COOKER 5 QUART is the most basic slow cooker I have had. The slow cooker worked fine and the food cooked evenly, and thoroughly. My biggest concern was that there is not an indicator light to show the slow cooker is hot. I guess it would be obvious if it is plugged in. However, if there were children or others rushing around in the area where food is being prepared, it could easily be missed as turned on, without the indicator light. Also, I did not like that there are some metal pieces at the bottom of the heating element pot. They appear to be weep holes or vent holes. They are not really long, however, no matter what I set it on they make marks and can scratch the service. I have to put the slow cooker on something non flammable and on something that will not rip either. The last thing is that the cover sits pretty evenly. However, I stick a sheet of thick aluminum foil underneath it when cooking. I also do not put frozen foods in the slow cooker. The cover is not sealed enough to keep heat completely in like an oven with the door closed. That may be the way it is supposed to be. I have to say that overall, if you know all these things up front, the HAMILTON BEACH SLOW COOKER 5 QUART, works fine based on my short time of using it. The cooking crock is as expected; fairly heavy. Important to know when handling and washing. Do not remove until cool. It does take a good ol' scrubbing, depending on what you cook. I made chili for this review. I am still not thrilled with no heat indicator light, and the metal pieces that come down fairly far. I also encourage people who might purchase this HAMILTON BEACH 5 qt slow cooker, to please read the information that came with this product. I can't say for sure if I would recommend this particular model from Hamilton Beach.

    Love the ease with which it operates. High setting heats up quickly, low reheats soup or casseroles to perfect eating temp, keep warm ensures everyone has a hot meal, even when getting home late. My taco soup was perfect. Pork roast was fall apart in your mouth tender. Today I am trying crockpot bread

    I have had two 6 quart cookers a red one which I loved but do to me not paying attention to what I was doing. The crock cracked, I believe I put frozen meat in the crock. Which the directions say not to do. So my fault. So I turned around and bought a silver one same size and brand. Both cookers cook very fast the recipes I cook like stew and 6 pound bone in turkey breast the recipes get done about an hour earlier than the recipe states. The settings are high, low, keep warm and off. The directions say do not set lid on cold surface so I set it on a dry tea towel. The cord is short to keep children safe. The lid fits well, you can also leave it go while you go to town and it does just fine. I put mine on a heat safe cutting board. My husband says the smell of the food cooking drives him and the cat crazy. In the future I would like to get a programmable one. The only negative is the crock sometimes turns white inside, you can scrub and scrub but it will not come off. Other than that it's a great cooker.

    Delicious Meals
    I love being able to come home from a hectic day knowing that my dinner is already made its like I just fixed it myself, before going out the door I turn on my slow cooker and put in the ingredients knowing when I get home it will be ready to me that’s the best, and i just love the removable stonewear that can be used in the refrigerator , oven or microwave I highly recommend this if you have a busy life and dont have time to prepair dinner.
