Winter Heater during a Power Outage
We bought this after we had a power outage that lasted 7 hours. Its very sturdy and came with a siphon to help add the kerosene. This is extremely helpful, living in Wyoming where the winds are always blowing, sometimes at 35 to 45 mph.

Dyna-Glo 10.5 Kerosene Heater
I purchased this heater based on the reviews. Other reviews stated that on low it would burn up to 13 hours. So far I have not seen that. What I have seen is on a full tank of kerosene (1 gallon) it burns for roughly 8 hours on low flame. All in all it is a good heater. Better than the 28,000 BTU heater I previously purchased. I like the fact that filled to capacity it is lite in weight and east to move.

My Favorite DynaGlo Kerosene Heater 10,500 btu
I LOVE THIS KEROSENE HEATER! I MUST! I Own 3 Now. Why? My furnace went out. It was a great back up. I learned on the first. I bought a second to back up on the back up when maintaining the wick and cleaning the carbon deposits. A friend borrowed my first and beat the daylights out of it. I kept it for parts and now I purchased a third. LOTSA heat for a small home. Love the light glowing through the glass all the way around. I control fumes by adding a tablespoon of 91% alcohol to clear water from the fuel before only half filling. I get 10-12 hours per half tank, only 16 hrs per full. That I have yet to figure out

    Great little heater.
I really like this little heater. I heat my entire trailer with it only keeping one bedroom door closed. It gets down to about 65 degrees in the back room but the living area stays nice and toasty. The only downfall is the smell when shutting it off and the maintenance off dry burNing the wick weekly.

    dyna-glo 10.5
This is a nice light-weight heater that can be more easily moved around than its larger version. Keep in mind that it is only 10.5 so does not throw as much heat but is a nice addition to warming a cool area on a colder day. Our main purpose was winter back-up in event of power outage, but we use them sporadically to ensure no left over fuel at end of winter. We are aging and needed something easier to carry upstairs when full. This fit the bill. On another note, we purchased the same unit thru Target and it arrived with a broken glass cylinder. This is more a reflection on the manufacturer/packer. Choose to order second one thru Walmart because of convenience. This review is written after using 3 times, but it lights easily, turns off easily and only leaves a mild fuel smell immediately after being turned off.

Good Source of Back-up Heat in an Outage
Having recently moved to a rural town, I was reminded in November when the power went out for a few hours that it's essential to have a source of back-up heat in case of an electrical outage. I'll probably have a wood- or pellet-burning stove installed by next winter, but in order to delay that expense (the chimney needs work too) I thought a couple of these kerosene heaters might do the trick. We've yet to have a winter outage, but I think these will do well. Assembly is easy, as is filling the tank with K-1 using the provided siphon. I first tested it on a cold day in my north-facing kitchen, which tends to be the coldest room in the house. It warmed up the room appreciably within ten minutes. Two of these should be fine as back-up heat for the 1000 square feet I live in, if and when a winter storm shuts down electricity for a while. They're easy to light with the battery-operated ignition, and when the flame is properly regulated according to the instructions, there's very little kerosene odor, although as others have noted there seems to be a pretty good whiff of it when the flame is extinguished. But that passes quickly. Some wick maintenance is necessary, as is occasional "dry burning", which must be done outdoors and could be inconvenient. But maintenance is a small price to pay for a handy source of back-up heat when it's needed. My first delivery disappeared from the front step because the FedEx delivery person ignored the signs requesting that deliveries be made to the side porch, which is set back from the road. This was the driver's fault, not Walmart's, but Walmart handled the problem quickly and re-shipped my order -- which was delivered to the side porch within a few days. Quite satisfied with my purchase and with Walmart's handling of the problem, too.

    Small but does the job
Bought this for my daughter because it was smaller and I thought it would be easy to handle. I was right! The reviews helped me pick this. It has not been very cold so not sure how it does when it is freezing but it sure works great! She had a little trouble lighting it but after the first few times, it works just fine.

    Mixed Review this item
I purchased the heater in mid December. I have had many Kerosene heaters over the year, some of which have lasted 10 or more years. This heater has both positives and negatives: Positives: Small, compact, auto light feature works well, nice even flame, dependable. Negatives: A larger Kerosene tank would be nice. Knob to turn wick up doesn't always "catch", sometimes requiring turning it up several times... may have to return if this continues. Manual lighting is difficult. Overall a good unit, and services it's purpose well - heating a small basement workshop.

    Perfect (for our home)
The Dyna Glo 10.5k btu kerosene heater is absolutely PERFECT for our 1000 Sq ft house. Here in East TN, we can get pretty chilly from late December to late February. My wife and I were so tired of paying outlandish electric bills (because our heat pump is 20+ yrs old and has a hard time keeping up with temps 40 degrees and colder). So we decided to purchase a kerosene heater. We looked around at some used on Craigslist, but decided to buy a brand new one instead. We received our heater just in time!! The day we got it, the low was around 25 degrees. Getting it set up was a little arduous, but was fully assembled in roughly 20 mins. Now, the thing you don't know until you open it is that after all is set up and you put your first gallon of kerosene in it, it has to set and let the wick soak for an hour before ignition. It kept our house so warm (again, 1000 Sq ft with standard 8 ft ceilings). We've used it for almost 2 weeks and it has proved to be the perfect fit!! We actually had a night were it got down to 17 degrees... and it kept our home a toasty 70!! It seemed to be having some problems igniting after about 6 uses. So, I did my first "dry burn" the other day. Haven't had another problem since!! So warm. So safe. We love it!! My brother is so impressed he's gonna buy one too!!

    Great for the price!!!
I bought this for my mom, as a back up to her central unit, and it's money well spent. The power went out soon after the heater arrived, and she's been over joyed at the results...
