Great Value!
Great item. Be sure to bring it inside at least 24 hrs before use with the lid open to get it cooled off. Chill all beverages and items going in the ice chest. I put about 40 lbs of ice in this along with 2 cases of beverages bottles and cans. It held ice for 2.5 days while sitting in the back of the truck in full sun in 90+ degree weather. Water bottles even had ice in the top of the bottle! Great purchase for the money.

Very Disappointed in this New "Xtreme" Cooler.
I was looking for a slightly larger cooler for a week long camping trip that I take twice a year. After much research and reading a lot of reviews I settled on this cooler. I really wanted something with wheels, but decided for the price and all the glowing reviews I could use this for the camping trips and pick something else up for racing weekends and other events that required hauling the cooler some distances. I really wanted to love this cooler! Even though the lack of a strap to keep the lid from opening too far, and the somewhat flimsy handles were detractors it was the right size and I really needed the extra days of ice retention. All I can say is, WOW, Coleman, am I disappointed! For a 70 qt cooler this thing has a small footprint. Upon closer inspection, however, it is easy to see why. The walls are extremely thin - one inch at best. Okay, I reasoned, Coleman is using this new insulation technology and maybe the walls just don't need to be that thick anymore. The lid did seem like it was solidly made, shut very tight and seemed like it was well insulated. So, before going any further with evaluating this cooler I did the "light test." In a completely dark room I put a bright camping lantern inside the cooler and shut the lid tight to see if there were any potential trouble spots. I am sorry to say the walls of the cooler lit up like a Jack 'O ' Lantern! I could clearly see that large areas of the walls had no insulation at all. Other areas clearly did as no light shown through. At least 50% of the total wall areas had ZERO insulation. The lid itself seemed to be well insulated and the bottom of the cooler wasn't bad, but still spotty on insulation coverage. After that I did not even bother to test it for ice retention - it would have been a waste of time. If I wanted a cooler with "air" for insulation I would have bought a cheap Igloo or Coleman cooler for 1/2 the price, not this "Xtreme" model. I promptly returned it to Walmart. What about all those 125 or so 4.9 out of 5 star reviews? Well, this is the new model of this cooler. This model is supposed to be the exact same size as the old model, but holds 6 more cans? I also saw one other reviewer who commented that this cooler is almost the exact same size as his older 48 Qt Coleman Xtreme cooler. You decide how they kept the outside dimensions the same but made the inside even bigger? In all fairness, maybe I got a defective unit. I got the one that was made on a Monday morning or Friday afternoon? One thing is clear, this one was not properly insulated. I can only say Buyer Beware!

Add your own straps and this is a great cooler
Read a lot of reviews and this one came in top, especially for the price. I wasn't willing to spend $300 on a 7eti cooler. My only concern on this one is the lack of straps to hold the lid from tilting too far back when open, which puts way too much strain on the hinges. Simple solution, I got a $6 set of cooler straps and easily installed myself. Now it's a great cooler!

I Love this ICE BOX!!! Great Buy!!!
Y'all I keep it in the back of my truck with ice cold beverages. I have to resupply the ice once a week in this 90 degree Alabama heat. Nice handles. Drains completely. Stainless Steel hinges. I do want to add a strap to the inside. I just don't want to stress out the hinges too much. But for another $41 bucks I can just get another of these. I'm telling you, I keep it full of beverages and have to get ice only once a week in this 90+ degree heat. NASA probably couldn't build a better cooler. GET YOU ONE!!! Ice in pic is 3 days old.

This would be a Top Notch Cooler if....
Great basic design, lightweight, top closes snugly, and is insulated. White is the best color for sun exposure and plastic is supposed to be UV treated-that will remain to be seen with use obviously. Handles seem decent and have nice rubbery grips and bottom has nice low rise corners for good stability (not rubber or non-slip). Hinges are stainless steel, and there's no latch in the front to break. I looked at alot of coolers and was just not going to blow the bucks on any of those roto-molded - too heavy and overbuilt for my needs and use. We do Boy Scout camping (that's why I wanted light weight) and we avoid bears! MY BEEFS with this cooler would be the drain plug - it just snaps closed and does impart confidence. I really don't want to return home after camping and have to wet vac out my van! So I'm planning on replacing with a screw on type. It would have been awesome if Coleman had equipped it with one that was a standard hose bib - are you listening Coleman? Also I purchased a stainless steel lid strap by Coleman - I was really surprised this was not standard also. I could see the hinges getting broken the first time out.

    Great cooler for the money
Just got back from a week on the Snake River in 90 + degree temps. I started with 3 blocks in it on Sun. morning and one week later on Sunday evening all 3 blocks were still at least half there. This replaced a 10 or 15 year old Igloo 70 quart that was still in good shape. I generally had to add 3-4 bags of crushed every day to keep things cold with the old cooler. The new one only required crushed added about 4 times which was overkill as I still had plenty of crushed left in addition to the block. It didn't really have much water in the bottom until Tuesday when I drained for the first time. The remaining blocks were big enough to save in the freezer for the next time. Even on Wed. and Thursday it was so cold that crushed ice still was stuck together. I don't know how they made it work and didn't expect such a difference from the old cooler. I have already recommended it.

    I highly recommend this cooler
I went camping with some friends and needed a cooler to keep the beer cold the whole weekend. I filled the cooler up and added two 2o lb. bags of ice and hoped for the best. To my surprise, very little of the ice melted after 2.5 days (85+ degree temps). When I got home I left the cooler outside for another couple days (90+ degrees) and my beer was still ice cold. I'm so glad I didn't end up buying one of those fancy coolers that are 2-3 times the cost of this cooler.

Why spend more when this does the job?
I bought this cooler instead of spending a lot more on a roto molder cooler like a Yeti, Engel, or Rtic. To test the claim that it holds ice for 5 days in 90 degree weather the day I bought this cooler I put 40 pounds of ice and a six pack of cold bottled water in the cooler and left it on our back deck indirect sunlight. That week the temps were in the mid 90's with heat indexes over 100 some days. The cooler was still holding ice on the morning of the 5th day. While it didn't make it to the night of the 5th day I'm confident that this cooler could make it 5 full days at 90 degrees. Well worth the price! Bottom line: This cooler does the job it claims it will at a fraction of the cost of big name roto molded coolers.

    Holds lots of stuff
Good size cooler. My hubby and I took it camping this past weekend and had it packed with; 32 bottles water,6 bottles beer,8 pack hot dogs, half gallon of milk,a rack of ribs and 2 large bags of ice- we could have put more! We did have to add ice after about 30 hours...I'm guessing the ice up to 5 days is referring to block ice??? Overall good value for your money,2 days on the ice would have gotten this cooler a 5 star from me!

    Great cooler for the price
We are really happy with this cooler. It kept things cold/frozen for 2 days, in the back of our truck. I froze water bottles to use as ice and had to take them out of the cooler on the 3rd day so that they would thaw enough to be able to drink them. I know there are better coolers out there, but certainly not for this price. And there are lots of coolers out there for this price that aren't as good. Our only concern is the durability of the handles, because the pins at the hinges aren't very long and are plastic. So far, they seem to be holding up well. All in all, we are very happy with this purchase.
