These squirrel houses are very well made with good quality cedar wood. I agree with posters who suggested attaching the bottom with screws rather than the staples used. Also mentioned was that it would be convenient to have a removable or movable roof for cleaning out purposes. Realistically , that's not an issue because I don't see myself climbing a tree to clean out the houses. The squirrels can do their own housekeeping in these sturdy houses provided for them. I am very pleased with this product and the price is less than half of nearby competitors. Also free shipping to house and squirrel condos come assembled.

Save yourself the time and money and make your own
Multiple problems with this product: upon opening after delivery We found that the product was not held together properly, with staples coming out of the product and large gaps in between pieces of wood. I for the price I was expecting something close to the picture provided, which shows a tanned almost stained looking tight well put together box and that is not what we received. To make this usable I had to reinforce it. The nail holes that were pre drilled couldn't hold the weight of the box with nothing in it while using 30lb heavy duty nails so we had to also hang this in another way. All around this was a pain in my butt and I would rather have hired someone to make this for me exactly as I wanted or had just taken the time to create it myself by going to my local hardware and lumber store. I don't recommend this product unless you're looking to be inconvenienced.

    Squirrel house of rough cedar is a good value.
    Squirrel house is a good value but needs an internal ledge about 2 inches below the entrance hole. This would allow nesting in the floor below but guard against intruder entrance.

    Squirrels should be happy
    Put up in white pine for the grey and black squirrels Good design and made out of cedar lightweight, and resistant, but softwood. added a few screws in my pre-drilled holes for longer life. Time will tell All looks good

    Inexpensive nest box
    Unless you have some scrap lumber laying around, you really can't make a box any cheaper than Walmart sells these. I reinforced the stapled wood with some 1 3/4 inch wood screws and added a predator guard just below the hole entrace. This is just a 1 in. thick x 2 in. wide piece of wood secured with wood screws horizontally across the width of the box just below the hole entrance. This makes it more difficult for a cat or raccoon to reach inside to grab any babies. Box can also be used as a screech owl nest box. Just put it up at least 10 ft high on a tree or in my case using 10 ft long piece of 2 inch conduit to make it more predator proof.

    bought this because of a horde of squirrels in my back yard tree. Squirrels seem to love it, well made. Only complaint is that it can't be opened to clean out.
