2.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser02/11/2022Not made with Italian olives. This is not Italian olive oil. If you look at the picture, the space on the label for country of origin stamp is blank. If you inspect these in the store, you will see Greece (GR) and Tunisia (TN), or Portugal, Argentina, Chile etc. Italy does not produce enough oil even for national consumption. They can say 'Italian' because it's bottled in Italy. The brand is Italian. Notice in the synopsis they use the term 'blend', another give away. In theory, would be better off buying from one of those countries, but the question is the stringency of official oversight and whether they are exporting their best in these cases. I have never seen an Italian brand at a supermarket that claims to contain Italian olives, though. In Italy, you will see familiar brands with a blend (what they export to the US) or that they're made from 100% Italian olives, for a few EUR more. Bad news: There has been and continues to be much coverage in the Italian news that even the 'Italian olive' claim is often false. These counterfeit goods (contrafatti) are often from well-known brands. Spanish is not a viable alternative right now due to tariffs: You can no longer find Spanish olive oil in the US at this pricepoint. I bought some La Española brand EVOO summer 2021 online. In the picture, country of origin was Spain. When I got it: Portugal. I don't know what Portugal's rules are on labeling- it could be that the Portuguese olives are actually imported. Weird that a much smaller country would be able to completely supply all of the US-destined "Spanish" oil. The problem here is the 25% tariff DT put in place on Spanish OO- it is still on. Adulteration: Another common trick is to package adulterated oil- again much covered in the Italian press, and also occurring among well-known brands. A bad quality, even foul ('lampo') is used. It has to be highly processed, under heat, in order to get the bad taste out. No longer cold-pressed, and no longer EVOO, in fact. Chemical composition is different and contains harmful substances. This insipid oil is then blended with just enough good-tasting oil to achieve flavor. "Light-" or "delicate" would be logical candidates, but not only. And all of those products that are made with olive oil, e.g. mayonaise, packed tuna, etc. Honestly, what grade of EVOO do you think that contains?James
