3.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser06/02/2022Metal over PlasticToo bad Walmart no longer carries Gold's Gym dumbbell handles. They looked just like these, but the spin clamps are iron. I've had mine for over 15 years. They can hold 80 pounds comfortable. They may be able to hold 100 pounds of the Cap thin plates, but I don't think it would secure it well enough. I see that Cap does make a chrome version that sells at Academy For $25. I'd assume the spin clamps would be metal. I would recommend those. I gave these 3 stars because the bars look good.Colt

5.00 out of 5 stars reviewVerified Purchaser02/08/2022These are better than the all-metal ones, really. There are 2 CAP screw-on dumbbell handle sets. This one has nylon-type screw collars and a nylon grip area that is bigger than the bar (better). Also, the collars have a raised area that can be screwed into 2" olympic plates. 1 side is flat and one side is raised. The raised area goes into the 2" plates. So they are both on backward-it's not perfect but good enough- and you'll need to buy another set of 4 nylon collars. But, buying another set of these handles is about the same price as just 4 collars. The nylon collars stay tight to the weights but they are harder to screw on. The metal bars are way more expensive. The collars come loose and you can't use 2" olympic plates. Also, you'll likely need to get some grips because the bar is skinnier with no grip like these. So, for me and my olympic plates, this is the set for me. Get the metal ones if you want to tighten the collars every set and use 1" plates. Up to you. Yes, I have multiple sets of both handles. I'm trying to help you out here. Positives and negatives for both, but these work best for me and they cost way less. Fyi, 1 1/2" PVC fits 2" plates good enough if you want to go that way. I put 3/4" pipe insulation on first and have some spacers then the 1 1/2" pvc. Stay safe and fit. I do this on 1" dumbbell handles and weight racks when I need to fit 2" olympic plates.Chris
