Brother has taken the throne!
This is an upgrade from my older Laser 3170 printer. Brother is far superior to anything I have bought in the past from other printer brands. The color is superior. It produces very good photo prints as well. One thing I do not like about all the laser printers is no glossy prints. I continue to use an ink jet for that purpose.

Useless for envelopes
Fine for standard document printing, color capabilities are good and as long as you're feeding from the internal tray all is well. The manual feed tray is VERY low-capacity and jams frequently, making mail merge operations a bit dicey. The biggest issue I've had, though, is printing envelopes: the printer simply runs too hot to print more than a few envelopes at a time. More than that, and the heat as the envelopes pass over the drum gets high enough to pre-seal all of them. I've had to reprint far too many large-batch envelope merges split into tiny batches, after throwing away hundreds of gummed-shut envelopes. Overall, if you're mostly printing on standard letter size multipurpose paper (or even letterhead, for the most part), it's fine. But potential buyers in an office environment should be aware that this model is more or less completely useless for doing any in-house mail operations because of the envelope issue.

Its somewhat too early to tell. But in the short time we've had it, its worked great. Much better than our previous printer.

Fair machine for small office but needs user guide
The machine works well but wasted half a ream of paper trying to figure things out (still trying). There are no clear instructions on set up (though wasn't difficult to figure out). No instructions on using it along with it's different features, you are on your own. As far as duplex copying, they don't tell you but it doesn't work for European sizes (A5...). The printing isn't the fastest or quietist but is suitable for small office.

    Great Printer But...
REallly good quality printing, however, it almost always says it's offline and we can't get it to print. We have to physically go up to the printer, press the home button, and fool around with it until it will finally print. This is getting annoying, I would like a fix for this.

    Perfect for Small/Home Business
Excellent Color Laser Printer for both Small Businesses and Home Based Businesses. Easy Set-up and simple to put on a network for sharing across multiple users. Print Quality is great for the price. Toner consumption seems less than our previous Dell Printer.

    So far ... well pleased.
Ease of set up and functionality are commiserate with the price. Have not had it long enough or used it enough to recommend on the basis of durability (has been an issue with other laser printers in the past). Prints clear and crisp, but not as fast as advertised.

    Another Brother exceeds expectations!
I've just had this printer. It was super simple to set up except somehow my internet got turned off in the process. I tried a couple thing and was totally confused. I let the Windows troubleshooter take care of it (there's a first tie for everything) and all of a sudden everything was working it is awesome to send print jobs wirelessly. Only printed one photo so far and it was pretty good. I've used the bypass tray several times. Everything seems very intuitive. This is the xxxthxxixxrd fourth Brother printer I've owned and my only complaint is the high cost of consumables. Oh Brother!!
