I set aside some Augason oats in 2015 just in case. A hurricane a few years before had left us in the dark for 2 weeks and I wanted food that wouldn't go bad if it happened again. Well in 2020 the COVId pandemic hit and our state went into lockdown. To avoid virus exposure I avoided grocery stores and opened the oats. At this point the Augason oats were 5 years old compared to the rated decades long shelf life. The bucket was hard to open. I used a crowbar. But the excellent seal had preserved the oats well despite being stored in a basement that sometimes gets damp. The oats were dry and tasty. I did find that the number of servings listed on the bucket is unrealistic. My 5 years old bucket said 107 servings, mow they say 108 ( for half cup servings). As a grown man half a cup of oats simply doesn't make a breakfast. My servings used 1 cup of dry oats and I got 44 total servings from the bucket . Overall I was very pleased with the product, other than the unrealistic serving size rating. Like other reviewers, I also wish they had filled the bucket more. I am likely to buy again when it's time to restock before the next natural disaster.

Funny smell.
Big oatmeal fan, always have been, always will be. Maybe it's because they didn't filter the oat dust well or something, but when decanting these oats, I couldn't help but notice a peculiar odor to them. They had a musty "barn" smell to them that reminded me of the smell of the oats we used to feed the horses at my Grandma's farm. I'm eating them, and they taste ok, but the smell put off my wife and she refuses to eat them.

Augason farms oat pail is a Great Product at a amazing price. Purchased from Walmart in conjunction with other products to get free shipping and the price is even better I'll purchase more. Even for everyday use it is a great deal.

    Saving for Emergency storage.
This item was shipped fast and was very well packed. The bucket was completely sealed and in good condition. I cannot give a review on the taste as I am going to be saving mine for emergencies.

    Works for me
I usually buy generic Old Fashion Oatmeal. This is less expensive and I won't have to buy for a while. I like it.

    Had my oats at last
Overall this is a good product. The oats are evenly rolled, not like some where you get only bits. This means the taste is good. One downside is that the top third of the container is empty. I can never understand why they don't say this is 13-15lbs and charge that little extra. Would that not make more sense.
