Works Great, but careful with the settings
Works great, a little touchy figureing out the proper setting for different products. The level stated on the labels doesnt always work. Good value.

Parts are so poorly machined that they don't even
Last year, I purchased the Agri-Fab 45-0463 130-Pound Tow Behind Broadcast Spreader and it broke after less than one season. This year, I figured that I would opt for the less expensive model. I figure that at 1/4 the cost, I could afford for it to be a little more disposable. The parts are so poorly made that I've not even been able to get this thing assembled. The metal spacers that are put on the axle before the wheels are too tight to slide down the axle. The axle appears to be of inconsistent size down its length. I was able to finally beat one past the fat portion of the axle and into place. On the other side, the spacer is stuck halfway down, and I'm unable to move it down into place or up to remove. Maybe later today, I'll grab a bigger hammer and drop another hour or so attempting to beat it into place.

85 lb. Tow Spreader Model Number: 45-0530
Had an issue with getting the wheels on the axel, used a bigger hammer to get them mounted. Had a issue witht he Control Lever, too stiff to be manageable. Unscrewed the mounting tab for the hopper, straighened out the z section of the wire, pulled off hopper mount. Cut 5" from the casing and the wire. Rethreaded the case (4mm or 10/32) die, reattached the hopper mount & rebent the end to a z shape. Works without the force needed with longer control cable. Suggested AF change the design.

    Not all was good
His review is about 85lb tow spreader 45-05303. I am a retired maintenance millwright (I have a lot of tools) and thought that a few things could be changed and make assembly easier. 1. The flow plate area of my hopper was badly prepped, there was badly cut casting flashing that had to be removed and the plate would not even insert until filing was done by me to clear the slide ways. 2, 6 of the 9 bolts provided were too long.part A. All washers provided for these bolts were too big, I used my own SS ones 3 the flow plate control wire is too long for this product (I got the impression that it was from a bigger capacity product) I had to fight with it to get it installed. Once installed the flow plate jammed I one area - more filing of it in situ fixed the issue. 4. On this product it was not possible to insert the inner bolt on the hitch and control tubes parts 2 and 3 without loosening part 26 removing the upper bolts and tilting it slightly. I did think about putting the bolt in the other way up but it looked like it would catch the spreader wheel. 5.why is the hitch pin so long 6 why are parts 7 not a left and a right. They have counter sunk holes to attach them to part 26?? 7. A stick on flow setting decal would be nice 8. The flow control lever detente system is stiff to work and the detente itself looks like it will break on the first day of use. I did watch some of your videos and a lot of the control lever/detente arrangement were much more robust and would last a lot longer than this set up. I am still going to keep it, I have assembled it, but it could designed better and pieces provided could have been resized, refined and quality control could be better, I say this because if you don't do it another manufacturer off shore will..

    Feed door handle mod
While putting this together I noticed the feed door cable was binding when I mounted the handle control making operation impossible. The cable is way too long. I used a short piece of 3/4" pvc to extend it and it put the cable in more natural/relaxed position. Now handle works smoothly. I haven't actually tested it yet but it seems it should last for a few uses a year.

    Towable 85# Agri-Fab Spreader
Received the Agri-Fab 85# Towable Broadcast spreader for Christmas from my children. Its a great tool. Looking forward to spreading fertilizers, insect control, and grass seed on my 3.5 acre lot. Im sure it will help the place look better maintained. Good tools make the job easier!

Skimp on parts to save money may cost sales loss
Agri-fab scrimps and washers and bolts they will also send you the unit missing two drilled holes on the tub that attach to the frame which have the holes. so hopefully you have a drill, drill bits two similar bolts lock nuts and washers handing to complete assembly as the engineer intended. Properly package

    Disappointed
Control cable is cheaply made and didn't even make it to 1st use. Hard to believe otherwise decent unit has such an inferior part that is such an important component.

Nice spreader with a three problems.
I assembled the spreader yesterday and then used it to fertilize my lawn. The first problem was in assembly. During assembly I had to add a nail to the piece of plastic that holds the control cable to the body. While I could immediately see the need for the supplementary instruction for assembly and the small metal added piece, it was not effective in holding the cable and popped right out. The fault was a combination of the cable's being too long thus causing excess tension on the attaching piece of plastic and that even with the added metal piece, there was insufficient protruding plastic to hold the plastic connector in the hole. Fortunately, there was an opening that ran long-wise thru the plastic connector and I was able to force a nail thru the plastic part thus holding it securely to the body of the spreader. Thanks for that opening! I feel there was way too much stress placed on the connector by the over long cable. It is a critical part of the spreader to be using a puny plastic part. The second problem occurred when I tried to fertilize my lawn. I felt the instructions for setting the spreader were inadequate. I would have appreciated a more definitive schedule of settings that showed conversion to other popular spreaders. Settings for more popular spreaders are usually shown on the fertilizer bags. That would be a nice addition to the otherwise spartan instructions in the "owner's manual." The third problem I had was with the controller head. The small white plastic stopper on the body of the controller was at first unmovable. I could not understand what was holding it in place. While I never did figure it out, I was able to get it to move to the desired place. However, as I moved the control arm I found the little white stopper was now moving easily. I tried to fix that with duct tap, but that was ineffective. Consequently, when spreading fertilizer, I ended up putting the first half of the contents of my fertilizer bag on the first quarter of my yard. I was able to be more careful setting the controller arm and spread the last three fourths of the yard. I plan to drill holes thru the controller head at places to which I want the arm to advance and put a pin thru the desired hole to ensure the arm does not go any further. The little white piece of plastic is a laugh. I suggest something that will actually stop movement of the control arm. I think after I get the control arm to stop and hold where desired I will be much happier with this spreader. The spreader seems to be otherwise well built and serviceable. It is just sad that the two critical parts of the spreader are so flimsy.
