5th graders can do it
I let my fifth grade twin boys put this robot together. They were able to do it relatively easily and it took them about an hour to complete the project. They then spent another hour playing with the robot they found it very fun and enjoyable. I would highly recommend as a family project and do it together

Interesting gadget
The 4M Table Top Robot Science Kit is n interesting science project. It is intended for kids 8 years old and up, but the assembly might prove challenging for an 8 year old. The instructions were easy enough to follow, and the legs and claws snap on and require no tools. The remaining parts are attached using small cross-head screws, so a screwdriver (not included) is needed. There are also some electrical connections for the battery (also not included) and motor. As I began the assembly process, I noticed that one of the wires from the battery compartment had broken off. Fortunately I have a soldering iron and know how to solder, so I was able to re-attach the wire. Once the robot was assembled, I tested it on a table. It moves sideways in a straight line until it reaches the edge of the table, then makes a sharp turn and continues until it reaches another edge. If it encounters an obstacle, it does not try to avoid it, which would have been a nice feature. From the picture on the box, I assumed that the robot is propelled by its 8 legs, but those are just for show. It is actually propelled by wheels on the bottom.

    Fun building
My 18 year old son put together this crab robot. He said it was pretty interesting to see how the parts fit together and easy to build. He felt that a child under ten might need adult help constructing this robot. As for the product statement "never falls off the edge" that's not accurate- our crab went off the edge many times. It was kind of exciting to watch it and try to judge when we should be trying to catch it before it crashed to the floor and sometimes it would surprise us and turn away from the edge at the last second.

    Simple and fun
This is made in China. I do not see what age this is recommended for, but my 7 year old put it together. There are not a lot of pieces. It is very simple to put together. You place the 2 metal poles in the base, then add the gears. There are 2 holes with metal surrounding for the red and black wires and then a cap to hold them in place. You add a battery and screw it together with 3 crews and then a cap on top and 1 more screw. the add all the legs and claws that pop on. It took my son about 15 or 20 minutes to put it together. The crab moves sideways and spins. My son loves this and spent an hour playing with the end product. This toy is very simple and not an expensive gadget by any means, but very fun and educational. As a mom, I assume this would be for kids ages 7 - 10. I think older than 10 it will just be too simple.

    Perfect beginner electric project!
The 4M Table Top Robot by KidzRobotix is a STEA+M powered kids project. It is a perfect small project for young learners. This project took me, an adult, about 10 minutes to complete. Here is some additional information about the Table Top robot kit: * The instructions are clear, with 10 steps to construction completion, a parts diagram and construction illustrations. * The packages are organized so that smaller parts are separate, making it easier to locate those smaller pieces. * The majority of pieces are made of plastic. The clear plastic cover is fairly thin. * Legs are not necessary for movement. The robot moves around using the wheels attached to the main chassis. * Requires a small phillips screw driver and a AA battery. * Works great! The robot really does adjust direction and move to avoid falling off of tables and to get around obstacles. Really cool! This is a great beginner electrical project!

Cool science robot crab kit for both girls & boys
This is a really cool kit for any kid, both girls and boys, who are interested in STEM. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). This is a fun way to learn about robotics with the 4M Table Top Robot. It is a great science kit that teaches robotics by constructing a working robot crab that scampers around but will automatically change direction when it hits a table edge or any obstruction and even performs acrobatic tricks. All you will need is a screwdriver and one AAA battery with no soldering needed. It is best recommended for kids 8 and up but not under 3 years old because of the small parts. The instructions are really quite easy to follow and this would make a cool, fun and educational gift

    Table robot
Cool little robot. See thru covering to see gears working. Fun to watch. Robot knows when table ends and turns. Kids enjoyed for extended periods. Instructions were a bit difficult for kids to build themselves. Had fun trying. Would recommend this robot for anyone who likes this type of toy.

    Build yourself robot
The instructions are easy to follow. My daughter was able to build it her self following the directions. It's fun watching it in action it really does not fall off the table. I do wish the legs had a better grip on to the robot they fall off easily. I like the idea of build it your self and then the suspense of thinking it might fall. Very fun!

    Kept us busy all day
The 4M Table Top Robot Science Kit is a boxed set that allows your kid to to assemble a robot with pieces that can crawl over tables and other flat surfaces. The kit comes with all of the parts needs for assembly. You will need your own AA battery and a small cross head screwdriver. They are not included in the box so be sure you have them before you begin. I am not the best at assembling furniture much less toys. Luckily my kid is. What I like about this type of kit is that it time heavy, (it took us a while to actually get the thing together), and it promotes science and technology learning the old fashioned way without being attached to a smart phone, or computer screen. We also had a lot of fun watching the creation move about. This toy is definitely for an older kid, small parts and directions would require someone with a relative degree of reading comprehension and also would appreciate the toy's purpose.
