Awesome!
Just replaced my old Dell with the Inspiron 3847, with Windows 7 pro, 8GB Memory, 1TB Hard Drive and S2415H Monitor. It also has Windows 8 - but I heard so much negative about that I wanted the Windows 7. Great PC, outstanding Monitor - it even has built in speakers. PC is super fast. I was going to pay someone to set it up, but decided to try it myself and it was easy. Hardest thing was getting the print cartridges into the printer. Everything was easy to download and install including the Microsoft Office 2013 Home Edition and the printer driver. I just upgraded to the wireless keyboard and mouse combo. Should have done this when I made the original purchase. This is a great computer.

Thus computer has not worked properly yet
I bought this boat anchor four days ago. The first day and a half, I had no sound. Without my changing a thing, the sound appeared two days ago. I installed the programs I use yesterday, set things up and thought the world was good. Tonight I played an LP through the system, no problems. Until I went back into iTunes to play sound music there. You got it, no sound. Shouldn't be a problem, I'll just go online and see what the manual says. But, now I cannot connect to the internet. In fact now it says I don't have a hard drive installed. I will return this garbage tomorrow and get a reliable computer.

Best Dell Desktop as of 2015
I have been using this Computer since January 2015. I have never found an issue on it and i am very happy with it. It was originally shipped with Windows 8.1 (The Windows recovery DVD also came with the computer) but i downgrade it to Windows 7 because i like moe Windows 7. The downgrade could be made easily without any problems. For those who want to downgrade, just make sure you get all drivers from Dell first, including the USB 3.0 drivers. Right now i am using 4 gb ram, which at some moments, i feel it is like the minimum quantity i would suggest to use in this machine. In the future, i hope i can upgrade up to 16 gb ram. if you are still feeling with doubts about buying this, just believe me: This machines has no hardware problems at all. Fans runs quietly, CPU temperature stays at 40 C almost all the time, and the case has a good looking design. You can google about common problems with this machine, and you will see few people have had problems with this model. So i hope you decide to buy this machine and if you do, i hope it fullfills your buying wishes.

    Better Than Expected
My computer was purchased before Windows 10 was released thus it came with Windows 8.1. Windows 8.1 was okay but not an OS I liked. For some reason the automatic update icon didn't show up on my computer so I called Dell to ask about it. The technician I spoke to was excellent. He directed me to the Microsoft site for downloading the OS, waited while it downloaded, then walked me through the steps of installing it, a total time of 3 hours. Because the computer has onboard Intel graphics but also a slot for a graphics card I called again later to ask how to disable the onboard graphics should I want to install my own graphics card. There is no option to do so in the BIOS. Once again I called technical support and once again received excellent service. I was given the information I requested without hesitation. The computer has thusfar performed flawlessly without any of the problems that many have reported due to upgrading to Windows 10. I purchased an identical computer for my wife. Hers came with Windows 10 installed. There are subtle differences in the operating systems of her pre-installed and my upgrade which makes me pleased that the OS on mine was not pre-installed. I also purchased a cordless keyboard and mouse KM636 which I previously reviewed not favorably. I have since learned that when I reviewed that equipment Windows had not yet installed the driver was the cause of the issues I was having. I tried to write a new review or edit the one I had written but was unable to do so which is why I include the comments here. KM636 is a much better than average keyboard/mouse combination.

    This Dell is fast!
Been buying Dell's for years. I keep several in the house, one for work and other for play. Work computer is high-end workstation with Win 7 and I like to keep it uncluttered. Finally the play computer died and thought I'd get this fairly cheap Dell with Windows 10 on it. I'm completely blown away how fast it is browsing the web! Probably a combination of Win 10 and this Dell, but it's sure fast, especially for streaming video content. Couldn't be more please with the purchase.

    Great Desktop Computer
Gave this Dell Inspiron 3000 to my wife for Christmas. She loves it! It has the i-5 processor and 8 gigs of ram. Works great for gaming. It is fast with no lag. It does not have any additional video card, just the integrated intel one, and it works good! We are quite happy with this computer and Dell's service couldn't be beat!

3847 desktop doesn't always recognize external hard drive
3847 desktop ,i5 processor, 8gb memory, 1TB hard drive, Win 7 home. 3847 desktop doesn't always recognize external hard drive. I save my work to an external hard drive which is always plugged into a front USB port. Several times a week when I try to save my work to the external drive the external drive content is not recognized. It recognizes the drive letter and usage amounts but not the content until I unplug and plug in the drive again. It than recognizes the drive with all it's contents. This borders on the ridiculous.

    A surprising omission
The computer is a solid office computer. If you don't need a video upgrade, you will be perfectly served by this one. I was, however surprised to find a computer, in this day and age, that does not have a PCIe expansion slot. If you need to upgrade your video, or add other high speed devices, this model is not for you.

Great Performance, Value, and HP Support
I bought the i7 16GB model of the 3847, and am beyond delighted---and this replaces my old Pentium 4 Alienware gamer. The unit is so quiet that I had to put my ear against the case to verify the fan was working. Nice touch of Dell to format the HDD with Win7 and an option to update to Win8.1 (8.7 recovery disk included) and even revert to Win7. (I am debating whether or not to go back to Win7.) The case is well designed too. Small footprint, just 2 screws to open, and a nifty lever to easily secure expansion boards. I added a video card in only 5 minutes. I am a Photoshop power user. The 3847 boots up Photoshop in 15 seconds versus 3 minutes with my old Alienware P4! I am now installing an SSD to load the OS faster, although for most users this boots up fast enough. In summary, the 3847 is a definite must-buy.

It is a rugged piece of hardware
It is a rugged piece of hardware that will last a long time. The Intel 4600 Graphics Card produces excellent graphics and it is a strong selling point. For desktop applications users, the Windows 7 operating system is easy to use and maintain. My only complaint about the processor is that the Hard-Drive activity light is hard to see and needs to be made larger or brighter. My complaint about the installed software was that there was a backlog of 75 Windows updates that needed to be installed. Whoever is responsible for keeping the master copy of the operating system updated needs to apply updates more frequently.
