Baby bath time checklist
While not all parents and caretakers need the same products for every baby, there are certain items that are always helpful to have on hand. Your baby's age and the spot where you bathe them will also help you determine which gear you need. This checklist includes the basics.
- Baby bath tub: While it may be tempting to bathe your little one in the sink or regular bathtub, wet babies are slippery, and a secure and stable tub meant for babies is ideal for safety.
- Baby shampoo and soap: Look for products made specifically for babies. They're gentle and won't irritate little eyes.
- Cup for rinsing: Anything clean and not too heavy will do. Plastic is sturdy and won't shatter if you accidentally drop it.
- Soft towels and washcloths: Hooded towels are great for keeping your little one warm and dry after a bath.
- Bath toys: While younger infants may not have much use for them, they can help keep older babies distracted, especially those who don't necessarily like bath time.
Tips for bathing your baby
Once you've shopped for all of your essential baby bath time gear, it's time to learn the basics of bathing your little one. Of course, you should always start with your pediatrician's recommendations. Always bathe and dry your child in a warm room, and only bathe them when necessary. Most babies can get away with two baths a week with wiping off in between. Don't forget to wash between your baby's skin folds, and always keep a hand on your baby during the bath. Even in a nonslip baby tub, they can slide easily. Consider applying lotion after the bath to keep your baby's skin moisturized. We offer numerous lotions made specifically for babies from all of your favorite brands — all at Every Day Low Prices.
Potty seats vs. potty chairs
Potty training is a momentous part of being a parent or caregiver, but the right gear can help ease the burden of convincing your toddler to ditch the diapers. One big decision you'll need to make is whether you want to use a standalone potty chair or a potty seat that goes over your own toilet.
An adult-size toilet may intimate a toddler who's just learning to go potty, but a small, kid-size potty chair is much more accommodating. Many come in bright colors, in cool shapes, and with fun characters that make potty time more appealing. Most have a removable bowl or reservoir that you dump in the big toilet and clean after each use. You can also opt for liners to make cleanup easier. Best of all, potty chairs are portable so you can move them to different rooms, take them on vacation, or take them to the babysitter's house.
Potty seats fit over your adult toilet, and while some kids don't like them, some kids love them. If your child starts out with a potty chair, you may eventually transition to the potty seat. Either way, your child may require a step stool to reach it when the time comes to use the potty seat. Potty seats make it easier for your child's smaller frame to sit on the toilet comfortably without falling in.
Other potty training gear you may need
For some people, a potty seat or potty chair is all you need for the training process. Other kids require more gear, and we have you covered. Training pants are absorbent like diapers, but your little one can pull them on and off like underwear. Timers, watches, and reward systems are available to help encourage and remind your little one to go to the bathroom. You can also shop our selection of fun kids' potty training-themed books or pick up a how-to potty train guidance book for adults.
