Mascara is eyelash makeup applied as a liquid, cream, or powder. Most mascara is sold in small upright containers with screw tops. The screw tops nearly always contain wands or brushes for applying the eyelash color.

Look closely at the wands and brushes on specific mascara products. They have different purposes:

• Curved brushes for curls and lift
• Mascara/eyelash combs to easily separate lashes
• Expanded or big brush wands with tight bristles for more volume

Most mascara brands include wands and brushes in their packaging, so you always have tools that work well with your mascara products. You can also buy specialty eyelash makeup tools for more precise mascara application.

Special mascara

Increase the eye appeal of your eyelashes with mascara that:

• Adds volume to lashes
• Thickens or lengthens lashes
• Resists clumping
• Curls lashes

Choose mascara that's hypoallergenic and contact lens-safe if you have any allergies or you wear contact lenses.
