Skateboards
Complete skateboards come with all the necessary parts so you don't have to buy the deck, wheels, and trucks separately. This lets you get to grinding, tricking, or cruising right away.
Your skateboard's width is the most important feature to consider if you're new to skateboarding. Here are some general guidelines for selecting your skateboard by deck width:
- 7.5 inches or larger (full size): For skaters taller than 5 feet 3 inches with a size 9 or larger shoe
- 7.3 inches (midsize): For skaters 4 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 2 inches tall with size 7 or 8 shoes
- 7.0 inches (mini): For young skaters between 3 feet 5 inches and 4 feet 4 inches tall with sizes 4 to 6 shoes
- 6.5 to 6.75 inches (micro): For the youngest riders 3 feet 4 inches tall or shorter with a shoe size of 3 or smaller
Skateboards come in a lot of different shapes, and the one that's best for you is mostly about the look you like the best. However, popsicle skateboards are considered the standard skateboard shape and are best for learning different flip tricks. They're shaped like a popsicle—rounded at both ends and nearly symmetrical—and both ends are also upturned (called a kick). This lets you do tricks with either foot in the front. Skateboards with no kick in the front or back are fine for cruising but make it hard to do tricks.
